school fees

Students of the Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, State of Osun, have urged the government of the state to ensure disparity in the amount to be paid by students of all levels in the institution. The Students Union Government (SUG) of the institution claimed that while students at the 100 level have been asked to pay N20,000 as their tuition fees subsequent to reduction in school fees by Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led administration, according to the notice given by the management, those in 200 and 300 levels have also been asked to pay N20,000. In a statement signed by the SUG President of the institution, Comrade Adegboyega Mathew, the union said: “Before Mr Governor announced the reduction in the school fees of NCE students in Osun, those in 100 level were paying N28,000; 200 level paying N15,000; while 300 students were paying N13,000, but now that there is reduction in the school fees, students at all levels are now paying N20,000 flat”. The students’ union then demanded that if the reduction in the school fees does not affect the students in 200 and 300 levels, they should be left to pay the original amount before the reduction, while those in the 100 level should be left to enjoy the reduction. It also kicked against the payment of N2,500 every year for Information Communication Technology (ICT), insisting that once the fee is paid once, it should be able to serve the students throughout the period of their stay in school. According to the statement, “the school fees must not be a flat rate for the three levels, rather, it must be the higher you go, as students, the lesser it becomes. “Also, there should be change in the fees of 100 level and 200 level. Also, the ICT fees must be once throughout the period of stay in school as students and not every year”, it demanded. The students’ union then appealed that the 100 level students should be made to pay N20,000 in line with the reduction policy, while those in 200 and 300 level should pay N15,000 and N13,000 respectively.
