NAFDAC Officials Seize Over 30 Containers Of Tramadol

About 33 containers of the banned drug, Tramadol has been confiscated by the The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control.

According to the agency, the drugs were being conveyed to a yet-to-be-ascertained location in the country.

The NAFDAC Director-General, Prof Christiana Adeyeye, disclosed this in Abuja while speaking at the National Chemical Security Training Conference.

She also noted that operatives also seized three trucks filled with Tramadol at the Apapa Ports in Lagos State.

The chemical conference was jointly organised by the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Chemical Security Programme.

The NAFDAC DG said that an emergency should be declared over the abuse of drugs by youths and children in the country.

Adeyeye said:

“We have to declare an emergency because of our youths and children who are abusing hard drugs. As I speak, we have about 33 containers of Tramadol that we intercepted. Those are the ones we could see. Some have exited the ports.

“We have a big problem in the country and we have to declare an emergency because of our youths and children who are abusing drugs and families being disintegrated.

“About five weeks ago, NAFDAC intercepted a 40-feet container of Tramadol and two trucks exiting the Apapa ports. We were told that these vehicles were heading for Yola and the eventual destination may be the Sambisa Forest.

“How can a young girl agree to have bombs tie around her, if not that her mind has been stolen through drugs? So, we have a problem to tackle. With the 33 containers, it means that some other containers are yet to be identified. We also have a problem with our porous borders.”

The National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (Rtd), said children used by the Boko Haram terrorists for suicide bombings in the North-East acted under the influence of drugs.

The NSA said this was the reason for the government’s “strict control measures for importation, manufacture, distribution, storage and usage of drugs in the country.”

Senator Adamu Speaks On N70 Million Allegedly Swallowed By A Monkey

Senator representing Nasarawa West in the National Assembly, Abdullahi Adamu has spoken on the reported N70 million belonging to the Northern Senators Forum, NSF, allegedly swallowed by monkey.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust, the senator said the allegation was made to give him a bad name following his position on the electoral act amendment bill.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that not less than N70m belonging to the Northern Senators Forum was allegedly diverted by Senator Adamu

According to him, “In order to give a dog a bad name, they now went to say that they had N70m that I mismanaged or whatever. The NSF, to the best of my knowledge, has never had N70m, at least not during my tenure that they purported it was mismanaged.

“We inherited something in the region of N62m/N63m that was declared by the outgone secretary of the forum who happens to be the present Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan.

“I didn’t touch one kobo until when we were going to Katsina for the NSF retreat. When we were going, we got the same guys to sign for the transport fares.

“Every senator that attended was paid N250, 000 as allowance for his two days and everyone also got N150, 000 for return ticket. They got these and they signed. The remaining money was returned to Abuja and was paid back into the account.

“You know, when you talk of money, everybody’s attention will be attracted. They did this to get attention, but this is just garbage, and for the allegation, it is up to them to prove.”

He insisted that this started when he protested the change in election ssequence.

He added, “I believe as a senator, it is not over because they will transmit it to the president for assent, he can sign it and he may decide not to assent to it.

“Remember, on the floor of the senate, they are saying they will override him (the president) as if they are in a motor park. They said so freely as if they had a grudge against the president.

“As a senator, I started talking to people who shared opinion with me on the passage of the bill. We are talking on it and yes, I have been holding meetings on it.

“I have a right of association, a fundamental right in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the fact that my position as a senator has not been taken away from me.

“There is no law that says that if a decision is taken on the floor of the senate, right or wrong, a senator has no right to talk to anybody outside the chamber on the matter; there is no such law.

“So, I have decided to be having meetings here, I have been having the meetings and I will continue to have the meetings.

“The worst anybody can do is to suspend me, but they don’t have any authority over my membership of the senate.”

OMG! Policemen Kill 16-Year-Old Lagos Pupil While Chasing Protesters

One of the bullets reportedly fired by policemen attached to the Ijora Badia Police Division, Lagos State, has killed a 16-year-old pupil at Randle Secondary School, Apapa, Emmanuel Chukwu.

The Senior Secondary School 2 pupil was said to be in front of his parents’ residence on Fadaini Street, Ijora Badia, watching some protesters when he was hit by the bullet.

PUNCH Metro gathered that some youths of the area had stormed the station around 8am on Sunday to protest against the rescue of a suspected female kidnapper by policemen.

The operatives were said to have resorted to shooting to repel the rampaging youths during which the Ebonyi State indigene was killed.

Our correspondent gathered that some residents had apprehended a woman for allegedly kidnapping a five-year-old girl in the community and attempted to lynch her. The suspect was rescued by the policemen and taken to the station.

Angered by the police’s action, the youths mobilised to the station and demanded that the suspect should be released to them.

They reportedly threw stones into the station when the police did not yield to their demand.

A resident, who identified himself only as Bola, stated that there had been cases of abduction in the neighbourhood without the perpetrators being brought to book.

He said the youths resorted to jungle justice because they believed that the police would eventually release the suspect.

He said, “A woman was caught with a five-year-old girl around 7am on Sunday and she was beaten up. In the process, policemen from the Ijora Badia Division came to rescue her. People took the law into their own hands because they did not have confidence in the police that justice would be done. There had been cases of abduction in this community and nothing came out of them.

“Some youths went to the station, demanding that the woman should be released to them. As they were throwing stones into the premises, the policemen started shooting. The noise of the protesters drew the attention of people living around the station. A boy (Emmanuel), who also came out to watch the protest, was shot by the policemen. He died on the spot and they carried his corpse away. They did not allow his mother to see his corpse.”

A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Baale of Ebute, a neighbouring community, went to the station to plead that the mother be given access to the corpse. The traditional ruler was arrested and detained.

“The baale was later released on Monday. The police bullet killed the boy; but they will try to cover it up. Justice must prevail. As a stakeholder in the community, I will not watch while injustice thrives,” he added.

The deceased’s mother, Ijeoma Chukwu, said she was immersed in domestic chores in their compound when she was told that Emmanuel had been shot.

She said her son was woken up by the noise of the crowd who paraded the suspected kidnapper around the community.

“He rushed out to the front of our house while I went to the backyard to do the dishes. After a few minutes, neighbours rushed in to tell me that my son had been killed by the police.

“I rushed out and saw the police taking his corpse to the station and ran after them. On getting to the station, I told them that I was his mother and pleaded that they should allow me to see his body, but they refused and threatened to shoot me if I didn’t leave the place.

“I cried, but they didn’t listen to me until they took the corpse to a mortuary. His father has travelled for a burial in our village,” she added.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said the youths had stormed the station with cutlasses, guns and explosives, threatening to burn down the facility.

He claimed that the victim was killed by the bullet fired by one of the youths, adding that nine persons had been arrested.

“A woman was about to be lynched by a mob in that area. A police team rescued the woman to the station, but the mob was not happy about it. They came to the police station with petrol bombs, guns and machetes. They were throwing stones and the petrol bombs at the police station. The policemen repelled the attack.

“One young man, who was putting on a red shirt with an inscription ‘Ema Bullet’ on it, was shot by one of the mob. The police recovered a gun from him.”

Reacting to the police claim, the deceased’s mother said his son was an easy-going boy, adding that the allegation was an attempt by the police to justify the killing.

‘Why I Turned Down Electoral Act Amendment Bill’ – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has listed reasons he refused to assent to the electoral act amendment bill sent to him by the National Assembly.

President Buhari on Tuesday, turned down the bill in a letter to the national assembly.

Some of the reasons as read out on the floor by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Buhari said, “Pursuant to Section 58(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), I hereby convey to the Senate, my decision, on 3rd March 2018, to decline Presidential Assent to the Electoral Amendment Bill 2018 recently passed by the National Assembly.

Some of my reasons include the following:

“The amendment to the sequence of elections in Section 25 of the principal act, may infringe upon the constitutionally guaranteed discretion of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize, undertake and supervise elections provided in Section 15(A) of the third statue to the Constitution;

“The amendment to Section 138 of the principal act to delete two crucial grounds upon which an election may be challenged by candidates, unduly limits the rights of candidates in elections to a free and fair electoral review process;

“The amendment to Section 152 Subsection 325 of the Principal Act may raise Constitutional issues over the competence of the National Assembly to legislate over local government elections.”

‘Why Man United Lost 2-1 To Sevilla In Champions League’- Jose Mourinho

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, has explained why his team surprisingly fell 2-1 to Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 second leg at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The first leg had ended 0-0 in Spain meaning that United have crashed out of the competition.

Mourinho said his team’s inability to score goals cost them a place in the Champions League last 8.

Speaking immediately after the match, the Portuguese gaffer said, “I think the first goal would be always important in this match, not just because of the first leg.

“We try to be aggressive and intense and I could see some similarities between this and Liverpool but hten we didn’t score then Sevilla progressively kept hte ball and controlled the game well.

“In second half we had good chances, good approaches to their box, they score one goal and form that moment everything becomes more emotional and much more difficult. The second goal impossible.

“The players were completely free for that, we had good situations, we had one good move with Lingard, Rashford and Valencia before end of first half which is exactly what we wanted. I can’t say my players had something wrong with their attitude and intention to play.

“Fantastic team like Tottenham has the same as us to do that. Liverpool has the Champions League but doesn’t have the FA Cup.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the dismissal of the coordinator of the presidential amnesty programme for former Niger Delta militants, Paul Boroh.

Boroh’s dismissal was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon by Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity.

In the statement, Adesina said Charles Dokubo, a professor, has been appointed to replace Boroh.

The statement read: “Prof Dokubo is currently director of research and studies at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. He holds a PhD in strategic studies from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom, and hails from Abonema, Akuku-Toru local government of Rivers state.”

The statement said Babagana Monguno, national security adviser, has been directed to probe the activities of the amnesty office since 2015 when Boroh was appointed.

Boroh, a retired brigadier general, was appointed on July 28, 2015.

He replaced Kingsley Kuku, the former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta who also doubled as Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme.

Angry Paul Scholes Attack Jose Mourinho As Man United Crash Out Of Champions League After Losing To Sevilla

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has attacked Mourinho over the club’s surprise 2-1 loss to Sevilla in their Champions League last-16 second-leg clash at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

A second-half brace from substitute Wissam Ben Yedder was enough to see off the Red Devils.

Scholes says United lacked desire and energy and claimed it was a difficult match to watch.

He has also criticised United for their performance in the first leg, which ended 0-0.

He told BT Sport, “It was very difficult watching that, it was difficult watching the first game. There’s no desire, no energy.

“He likes to play on the counter attack and use his pace,” Scholes said of Mourinho.

“It was very difficult watching that, it was difficult watching the first game.

“There’s no desire, no energy, no speed about the team.

“I can’t explain it, it’s unexplainable. It will be interesting to hear what the manager says.

“You go back to the first game, the modern games now is teams go to places and try to score goals.

“United went there and didn’t even try to win the game or score a goal.”

‘Why Lionel Messi Feels At Home In Camp Nou’- Busquets Warns Chelsea Ahead Of Clash

Barcelona midfielder, Sergio Busquets, has revealed that fellow teammate, Lionel Messi will never leave the club to English Premier League (EPL) as he is perfectly at home.

Busquets disclosed this ahead of Barcelona’s clash with Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League second leg round of 16 tie at Nou Camp on Wednesday night.

Asked whether he can imagine Messi being priced away from Barca by a Premier League club, Busquets told reporters that the Argentina captain has few reasons to leave.

“I think he feels at home here,” Busquets said.

“When you feel at home with all the things you have here – this is a big club, with good players next to you, you win different trophies, this is a good project, economically he’s doing well.

“All of this is positive. It’s difficult to find this in other places.

“We know the Premier League is a spectacular league. We would like to play there, but if you take all the positives and all the negatives, it’s very difficult to leave Barcelona.

“If you feel at home and you’re from Barcelona it’s difficult to change.

“To see him moving to another side, given all that, is very difficult. Getting out of here is difficult for most of us because we have everything,” he said.

Busquets expects Messi will thrive against the Blues.

He said: “He’s going to be OK and more motivated than he usually is. He’s going to be more relaxed.

“I hope he’s going to be perfect and will play as he usually plays. He always makes the difference.”
